How Many Acupuncture Treatments Do I Need?

How Many Acupuncture Treatments Will I Require to Find Relief?

There are many variables to consider before answering the question of how many acupuncture treatments do I need?
• The severity of the injury or illness
• The length of time the patient has experienced the problem
• Patients responsibility in changing his or her diet or lifestyle to help the body heal properly

Each person’s situation is unique and will require a different course of treatment. Chronic conditions average at least 10 – 12 treatments over a time of 6 – 8 weeks to feel and produce positive results.

In the beginning, you’ll begin to gradually feel better. More frequent treatments will help to jump start the process of the body healing itself. Start with 2 to 3 treatments per week to see how it’s working. Don’t give up.
Typically, you can expect to begin seeing results after about 4 to 6 treatments within a months’ time but severe cases will obviously require more time. In our experience, complete relief from chronic conditions are seen within 20 – 30 treatments.

Maintenance therapy at least annually for one month. It will be more for some patients and less for others. Again, this is determined by the associated variables that contribute to the individual’s unique circumstances.

Many of our patients have decided to eliminate their use of prescription pain drugs because of the addictive nature of these opioids. Because a person’s body builds a tolerance to pain medication and pain medication strength needs to increase it has become a vicious cycle. Acupuncture is a proven means of eliminating the need for pain medication and is even used by the US military as an alternative treatment to reduce suffering and eliminate pain naturally.

Conventional Medicine

Conventional Western medical treatments utilize prescription drugs and /or surgery to treat illness. Prescriptions are combinations of chemicals that don’t naturally occur in nature or in the human body and may be associated with harmful side effects. Prescription medications are designed by chemists to regulate or change how the body responds naturally.
For example, when you’re injured, your body is going to respond with some sort of an immune or inflammatory response. This response causes swelling, pain, and heat around the injury while the body heals itself. Some medications inhibit or slow down the natural ability of the body to repair itself.

Pain medications mask pain giving the individual a false sense of wellbeing that may lead to further damage. When an individual feels good and the natural warning signs of pain are ignored and not felt they may postpone the natural healing process. Pain tells you to be wary of touching or moving the part of your body that is injured and needs to heal and you need to rest and allow yourself to heal. This will help you prevent further damage to your injured body part. Inflammation is your body busy repairing the damaged tissue and surrounding area.

Medications don’t address underlying issues that are causing problems they simply mask or suppress symptoms of immediate issues and allow relief temporarily. It is in the best interest of every person with an illness or painful malady to become their own top medical advocate and seek answers from many different experts and to also examine and make appropriate changes in your diet and lifestyle first and especially before going under the knife and have surgery.

Obviously, surgery can be lifesaving and at times is the only choice in a life and death situation and necessary. But for those who elect to do surgery you may first want to seek an alternative form of therapy and opt in for surgery only if nothing else works.

How Acupuncture and Natural Therapies Work with The Body

Acupuncture, by contrast, stimulates the body to repair itself. Our bodies instinctively work continuously to heal. Acupuncture works at a deeper level to open healing pathways and stimulate its own healing and immune response therefore strengthening the body’s ability to heal itself more rapidly.

There is a misconception that acupuncture treatment works like a prescription drug and there is immediate cure or well-being response after a single treatment. Western civilization has become a society of I want it now and is the reason why prescription medications are so popular. It’s also the reason lipo suction is so popular because of the instant results when people do not want to go on a serious diet program.

As with any exercise program, or diet results are not felt or seen in a single day of a diet or one day of exercise. The same is true of acupuncture and results happen gradually over time. A person doesn’t say this diet isn’t working after one day or I have not seen results of my workout today exercise doesn’t work!

Lots of people will get one or two treatments of acupuncture to find relief from a condition or injury that has bothered them for a long period. However, when they don’t see immediate results, they stop or decide that the treatments aren’t working.
Acupuncture is much like exercise, you can’t quit after just a few short sessions and expect results. Therein lies the answer to the question “How many acupuncture treatments will I need to see results?”. The answer is the same as the exercise answer, “as many as it takes”.

There is a cumulative effect in a person’s body with acupuncture just like an exercise regime in many respects. If you want a certain level of fitness you need to do the work to get the results you want. With acupuncture, you need to follow a regiment of treatments as well.
